Once you pick your location:
- Use Google Earth to locate landmarks you would visit & get an up close look at them
- Create a PowerPoint presentation with slides detailing your destination and each stop you would make. There should be at least one picture per slide.
Activity 2: Ocean Exploration
Part 1
The Galapagos Islands are renowned for their endemic species studied by Charles Darwin. His observations there led to his theory of evolution by natural selection.
Using Google Earth you can "Explore the Ocean" to learn more about the Galapagos Islands, its geographic features, and its native wildlife.
Watch the video "Welcome to the Galapagos" on Google Earth. Use the information you gain to answer the following questions in a word document:
1. What are the Galapagos Islands nicknamed?
2. What ocean are the islands located in?
3. What country are they located in?
4. What are four native animals to the Galapagos? Research a fact about each.
Part 2
Continue exploring Earth's Oceans. Visit the "Shipwrecks" category (we all know the most famous) and the "Marine Protected Areas" and "Endangered Ocean Species" sub-layer.
Next, locate dead zones. What are these? Go to Ocean > State of the Ocean > Dead Zone to find out more. Locate at least 3 dead zones around the world.
